A symposium that highlights the exemplary role played by mothers in cultivating their children's interest in reading was held in Beijing on Saturday, which marked the 27th World Book and Copyright Day.

The event, held by Beijing Changier Education Foundation, gathered celebrities and scholars to discuss how important it is for younger generations to open-mindedly embrace the diversity of human civilizations, probe into cultural heritage left by our ancestors and push forward the advancement of our society through reading.

Chinese Academy of Sciences academic Liu Jiaqi encouraged young people to keep acquiring knowledge, learn the rules of nature and protect our earth when facing the uncertainties of the future.

Xu Li, former CCTV anchorwoman, shared her personal experiences in parenting, saying that reading with her son is a way for them to intentionally be together.
